CHOICE Portfolios

Conferences and Portfolios

Portolios and conferences are an integral part of the CHOICE program. We'll try to answer some of your question on these topics below. Porfolio Forms are available at the bottom of this page.

Purpose and Format of Mid-Year Conference

Mid-year conferences are set aside as a time for your child to present the progress he/she has made toward fulfilling their portfolio requirements. Your child will present their accomplishments showing the evidence that they have met specific requirements. You will have a chance to then ask questions. A plan will be developed for children who are falling behind in their portfolio. So, come prepared to enjoy sharing your childŐs accomplishments! A logistical note: Children are to come to their electives and be picked up at 10:15.

Portfolios: What are They?

Since we do not have a traditional grading system, the portfolios are a way to collect evidence of learning. At this point in the year, students are expected to be halfway done with all of their Portfolio Skills Requirements (PSRŐs). As you recall, the list of PSRŐs were shown to you at the fall conference. They include such things as: conducting a science experience, doing an independent project, doing a group project, conducting an interview, compiling a Math and LA portfolio, volunteering in the communityÉ When they complete a given PSR, they write a reflection, and put the evidence of their accomplishment into their portfolio binder. They have had time in Co-op, Language Arts and Math to work on their portfolios. Some students have been very diligent and organized in this process. Other studentsÉ well, shall we say, it is good for us to have this mid-year conference to check in. For those of you who would like to help your child in this portfolio process you can:
  1. Ask to see their portfolio binder.
  2. Have them show you what skills they have worked on and the evidence they will show.
  3. Help them organize their evidence.
  4. Ask if they have done a reflection for all the PSRŐs.
  5. They should also fill out a "Goals Status" sheet for each of their personal goals. (These are available with their co-op teachers.)
A complete list of the PSRŐs, the Language Arts and Math Portfolio requirements can be obtained through your childŐs co-op teacher. Please do not hesitate to call, if you have questions.
