Ms. Rundell's Weekly Assignments

Work for week of October 5 - 9, 2009

Math Block Two [Stretching and Shrinking, focus on scale factor]

Monday: start class with openers, review concept of mathematical similarity ("wump" discoveries), make data table for wump hats (problem 2.2), start making wump hats by following each mathematical rule for x and y axis, homework tonight is #1 p 28
Tuesday: review homework, finish "wump" hats, share discoveries, take notes on what happens when we add, subtract, multiply, and divide from the x and y variable, homework tonight is #3 - 4 p 29
Wednesday: review homework, start prolem 2.3 - comparing "wump" mouths and noses, notes on terms - corresponding and scale factor, homework tonight is #7, 11 p 30 - 32
Thursday: review homework, make homework bundles (3 assigments this week), finish problem 2.3 by comparing and creating similar figures, no homework tonight
Friday: homework bundles given back with comments, start experimenting with "rep-tiles", use various shapes to build similar shapes and compare, no homework tonight

RoShamBo [Integrated - earth science]

Monday: hand back results from Air Stuff Cliz (clicker quiz), hand back collapsing can lab with comments on quality of work and level of understanding the concept of temperature's effect on air pressure, START WEATHER WATCH, students will be going outside each day for the next 2 weeks to gather data on - temperature, wind speed, relatative humidity, dew point and more [THIS DATA COLLECTION IS HIGHLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT WILL BE USED TO COMPLETE A CULMINATING PROJECT FOR THE WEATHER UNIT], REMINDER: STUDENTS SHOULD BE WRITING DETAILED OBSERVATIONS IN THEIR MOON JOURNALS EACH NIGHT
Tuesday: cloud surfing on the web, go to computer lab to research all cloud types, take notes and draw detailed sketches, come back to class to share in small groups, outside for WEATHER WATCH
Wednesday: review of cloud types using power point, refine notes, WEATHER WATCH, share weather patterns, check accuracy of data so far, HOMEWORK IS TO BRING MOON JOURNAL TO SCHOOL TOMORROW
Thursday: share moon journal progress in large group, CLOUD IN A BOTTLE LAB - LAB REPORT IS DUE TOMORROW, WEATHER WATCH, HOMEWORK IS TO TYPE CLOUD LAB REPORT
Friday: need volunteers (2) to do weather watch over the weekend, collect CLOUD LAB REPORTS, explore concept of coriolis effect with demonstrations, volunteers, and notes, introduce the LONG TERM PROJECT INCLUDING ALL DUE DATES [ students need to decide on their "juicy question" by next Friday], WEATHER WATCH
