Rockumentary – RoShamBo 3.0 style
Rundell Earth Science
You will help the rocks tell their story of the last
2 BILLION years in the Boulder area.
Use your rock samples, pictures, notes from the hike, tour guide of layers,
and rock identification data table to put your project together.
The following information must be included in your ROCKUMENTARY:
~ LAYERS – Include information about each formation we hiked through [quartzite, Fountain, Lyons, Morrison, and Dakota]. Say a bit about how the layer was formed (see "tour guide" layers), what the time frame was in millions of years ago, what were the "events" when the layer was formed [flood, drought, swampy, river, etc], and describe what it looked like overall.
~ ROCK SAMPLES – Use actual samples or pictures, or sketches to give a detailed description of each type of rock you collected from the layers. Include the rock classification (igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary), describe texture, color, any cool patterns, easy to break or not, any distinguishing features.
~ HISTORY – Describe the overall "play by play" of what happened over the last 2 billion years in the Boulder area. Tell this as if you are speaking for the rocks and what they went through as the Ancestral Rockies eroded down and became a completely flat plane, then the next layers were formed on top and eventually uplifted to form the landscape we see today.
"Musical" Options for Rockumentary Display
~ TECHNO = power point, slide show, or other computer generated format
~ TRAIL MAP RAP = draw a map of the hike we took with information along the way about what the hiker would see, poster format with sketches
~ HARD ROCK = use actual rock samples to show a cross section of the layers we hiked through, poster format with pictures
Each group will do an informal presentation of their
ROCKUMENTARY next Thursday, Nov 12
