Welcome to Arapahoe Ridge’s English/Language Arts Department. Since we’re a small school, I am able to teach many different classes such as American Literature; Humanities; Communication and Readers’ Workshop. I also help coordinate Individual Literacy Plans (ILP’s) for the school. Although I’ve worked for Boulder Valley Schools for ten years, this is only my third year at Arapahoe Ridge.

I feel extremely lucky to live in Boulder, which has excellent schools, but also has a wonderful environment for outdoor activities. I enjoy running; biking; kayaking and cross-country skiing, as well as watching the Nuggets and the Rockies. The last few years I’ve also spent time in Santa Fe visiting my 22-year-old son, who attends St. John’s College.

I realized I wanted to be a teacher while working in the Reading and Writing Lab at the University of Michigan where I received a Baccalaureate degree in English. I discovered the importance of literacy in school and in work. I moved to Colorado after graduating and attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, where I received a teacher’s license and a Master’s degree in Reading.

Along with teaching, I’ve had some exciting jobs in education such as Literacy Consultant to the State Library; Family Literacy Coordinator; Reading Specialist
and Curriculum Coordinator. I especially enjoy working at Arapahoe Ridge and helping our students meet today’s unique challenges.
