Welcome!

I will be one of your social science teachers. I am interested in getting to know each of you individually; but first, let me tell you about myself.

I am originally from Iowa and grew up in the infamous town of the “Field of Dreams.” I spent my childhood in a small rural town enjoying the tri-state area. My summers were filled with swimming in the Mississippi River and fishing for salmon with my parents in Lake Michigan. I loved running track and cross country in high school and traveling with my marching band in parades around the country.

These travels inspired me to move to Colorado after I graduated from the “University of Iowa” with a B.A. in History. After two years of working in Boulder I decided to pursue what I loved best and that was to teach history. I went back to school at the University of Colorado at Boulder and earned my teaching certification. I have been teaching for twelve years and feel lucky that I get to do a job that I enjoy so much. Another passion of mine is to travel. Moreover, share what I have learned about other countries and people with my students.

My passion is history and I try to surround myself in local history too. Living in a house in Lafayette that just had its 107 birthday I have a first hand account of living history that my students here about all the time. This is my second year here at Arapahoe Ridge High School and the students share their own knowledge of history with me that creates a wonderful atmosphere of learning. When I am not repairing my old house I am walking, hiking and camping with my dog Elijah and enjoying the outdoors..
