Third Grade

3rd Graders Reading

Third grade is a year of great change for students. During this time, they become much more aware of the world around them. This is also the last year of a three-year loop with their teacher.

The third graders continue to develop their literacy skills using a balanced approach that includes independent, shared, and modeled reading and writing.  In Math, they continue to develop their understanding of addition and subtraction, work on number sense, geometry, and fractions, and are introduced to multiplication and division. The students continue to explore ancient civilizations: Greek, Mayan, Aztec, and Incan.  They also spend time in the spring learning about Colorado history.  In Science, the major themes are Colorado wildlife, space, and the human body.
