Shared Decision-Making
Important school decisions are made with input from the faculty and the Educational Decision (ED) Council. Responsibility is shared by faculty and ED Council members, and collaboration is a high priority within our professional community. According to BVSD policy, a small number of administrative decisions are required to be made by the principal.
Educational Decision (ED) Council
The ED Council is integral to many important school decisions. It is comprised of teachers and parents who represent each classroom and parents who are elected to the council. Elected ED Council members make decisions when an item comes to a vote, although decisions are usually made by consensus. Meetings are open to all interested parents and are held once each month. This organization is similar to SIT or PTO at other schools.
Fall Community Meeting.
A community-wide, evening meeting with the ED Council and faculty that takes place in October. This is an opportunity for parents to get acquainted with ED Council members, learn more about the school's curriculum, get questions answered, and meet families and faculty in other grades, among other important school business. Please attend, make your voice heard, and volunteer!
Spring Community Meeting.
A community-wide, evening meeting with the ED Council and faculty that takes place in April. This is an opportunity to hear about new curriculum and educational efforts taking place at the school, hear about issues facing the school, have questions answered, and help elect new ED Council members. Please come and participate in the governance of your child's school!
