Bear Creek Elementary School is situated on a hilltop at
the base of the Flatirons, Boulder's dramatic rock formation, and we
enjoy a panoramic view of the city of Boulder and the Colorado plains.
The impressive mountain backdrop is a daily inspiration reminding us
that our thirty-year tradition of maintaining a strong school community
is the bedrock upon which we strive to reach high academic goals. By
enveloping children in a safe, nurturing environment and teaming with
parents and the community to ensure learning for all students, we can
inspire students to conquer their mountains and realize their dreams.
Bear Creek Elementary School selected as a “National Blue Ribbon School”
Bear Creek Representatives invited to Washington D.C. for national
ceremony in November.
BOULDER— Bear Creek Elementary School, located in southwest Boulder at
2500 Table Mesa Drive, announced today that it has been chosen as a
“2006 National Blue Ribbon School.” Bear Creek launched its
celebration this morning amid a bevy of blue ribbons and proud
students, parents, teachers, administrators and Board of Education
members.
The highly prestigious Blue Ribbon Schools Program is a key component
of the federal No Child Left Behind Act. It honors both public
and private K-12 schools that are determined by the U. S. Department of
Education to be either academically superior or to have shown dramatic
gains in student achievement. The Blue Ribbon designation was
awarded to only five schools in Colorado.
The awards were officially announced in Washington, D.C. by U. S.
Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings. Bear Creek put off its
public celebration until key members of the school community who were
out of town last week returned.
The national awards ceremony is scheduled for November 9-10 in
Washington, D.C. The principal, Kent Cruger and a teacher will
attend on behalf of Bear Creek Elementary. Each school receives a
plaque and a “NCLB-BRB” flag for public display.
