Counseling Corner Calendar - 2007-2008

Seniors: you are in the final stretch and careful planning is a must! We encourage you to do your best work and to meet crucial deadlines!

AUGUST 29
FRESHMAN PARENT NIGHT
7 PM BHS Auditorium

SEPTEMBER 5
MANDATORY MEETING FOR SENIORS

(Parents welcome)
7:30 AM-8:25 AM (TAP) BHS Auditorium

Join your counselors for this mandatory meeting to get important information on planning your life after high school, the college application process, and using the Naviance program to make it all easier! Counselors will meet with all seniors individually for appointments throughout September and October, but this generalized, important information will only be given once.

SEPTEMBER 5
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
7 PM-9PM

Parents are invited to attend their student's classes. Save yourself some time and get your student's schedule off of Infinite Campus. Maps will be available by the school entrances. Classes are 15 minutes each, with first period beginning at 7:10. Join us for refreshments in the cafeteria during free periods.

 

SEPTEMBER 12
MANDATORY MEETING FOR JUNIORS
(Parents welcome)
7:30 AM-8:25 AM (TAP) BHS Auditorium

Join your counselors for this mandatory meeting to get important information on your high school graduation plan, PSAT/SAT/ACT, and life after high school, and using the Naviance program to make it all easier! Counselors will meet with all juniors individually later in the year, but this is the only time this important information will be given.

SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER
SENIOR GRADUATION CREDIT CHECK

Seniors must sign up to meet with their counselor for a review of your graduation requirements. We will accept your application for your diploma and review your transcript. This graduation credit check must be completed before your college applications are mailed/submitted. Interviews should be completed by December 1. If you need assistance on college planning, please make a separate, additional appointment.

OCTOBER-NOVEMBER
COLLEGE VISITS @ BHS

Many college reps visit our campus to meet with students and discuss their college programs, scholarships and more. This is an excellent way for students to begin to get an idea about which colleges are of interest to them. Sign-ups are not necessary. Class absences due to college visits need to be excused by the parent . Be sure to mention that the absence was due to a college visit and it will not count in the absence tally.

OCTOBER 2
EARLY ACTION/EARLY DECISION DEADLINE

Seniors with applications for EA/ED must have their appliations to their counselors by October 2. See your counselor for details.

OCTOBER 4
COLORADO COLLEGE NIGHT
7 PM CU Events Center

The counselors urge all juniors and seniors and their parents to attend the district-wide college night. This is also a good time for freshmen and sophomores to begin the college search process. Students and parents will have the opportunity to meet with counselors from over 40 Colorado post-secondary schools and learn about entrance requirements, financial aid, majors, housing and campus visits.

OCTOBER 10
OUT OF STATE COLLEGE FAIR
7 PM Monarch High School

Take advantage of this opportunity to meet U.S. and international college reps. Learn about entrance requirements, housing, financial aid and student activities.

Juniors and Sophomores - be sure to register to take the PSAT (see next item).

Regular registration: Oct. 10-17 cost is $22
Late registration: Oct. 18-19 cost is $40

OCTOBER 20 PSAT at BHS

College-bound juniors and sophomores should plan to take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test on Saturday, Oct. 20. For Juniors, this is the National Merit qualifying test.

NOVEMBER 9
DEADLINE FOR COMPETITIVE PRIVATE COLLEGE APPLICATIONS

Seniors applying to private colleges and universities: If your application deadline is Jan 1-10, have the counselor's part of the application to your counselor by November 10; if your application deadline is Jan 13-Feb 1, have the counselor's part in by Dec. 2. This allows the counselor adequate time to write a recommendation or attach a transcript before winter break.

DECEMBER 3
FINANCIAL AID NIGHT
7-9 PM BHS Auditorium

A college financial consultant will present a program for parents on the ABCs of financial aid and the various financial-aid forms. During this hands-on program, parents spend an hour learning how to complete necessary forms, including the FAFSA. FAFSA forms are available at fafsa.ed.gov.

2008-2009 COURSE SELECTION
Tap 2 Classrooms

Current Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors will be getting information and instruction on course selection for 2008-2009.

FEBRUARY 23
8 th GRADE COURSE SELECTION NIGHT
BHS Auditorium

Details will be forthcoming but incoming 9th grade parents and students should plan on attending this important informative evening. Counselors and teachers will make short presentations and be available for questions.

APRIL 23
ACT FOR JUNIORS
Boulder High Classrooms

State law requires all juniors to take the ACT test. There is not charge to the student and no pre-registration is required. Juniors may want to see how they perform on the April 23 test before paying to take the test on another date. Note: The results of the ACT administered at BHS are accepted by most colleges and universities except for military academies.


LATE APRIL
ADVANCED PLACEMENT DIPLOMA APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE

Seniors who qualify for an AP Diploma need to complete and return the AP Diploma Application (available in the counseling office) to Claire Sandford. Deadline date to be announced.

MAY 5-16
ADVANCED PLACEMENT TESTING

See Testing for specific AP test schedule.

MAY 20-22
SENIOR FINALS

5/20: 2, 5, 7; 5/21: 3, 6; 5/22: 1, 4; all finals take place during regular class times.

 

MAY 22
AWARDS CEREMONY

MAY 24 GRADUATION

MAY 23 & 27-29 FINALS
