Course Description:
This is a semester course designed to use some of the programming skills from other classes and apply them to web development. Units of instruction will include email, user groups, list serves, browsers, and Web page design. Students will have a variety of projects.
Course Outline:

Applying for email account, ethics, password significance. | Fill out the necessary forms for email account and submit them. Write out contract in Word with the conditions as you understand them. Print it out and have parents and student sign them. |
| 2 | Look at Pine and Elm as basic email editors. | Write messages to 6 others in the class and reply to the messages you receive. |
| 3 | Beginning Unix command and permissions. | Use the lists of commands presented and set up your account with
the correct permissions and give someone else permission to use a
subdirectory. |
| 4 | Basic html - tags, body, colors, backgrounds, tables, lists | Create a basic home page with the commands you have learned. Use Word to write the code. |
| 5 | Using graphics in html. | Add some graphics to your page you are creating. |
| 6 | Introduction to Hot Metal Pro | Create another page using this software package and notice how much easier it is to use. |
| 7 | Tables and links. | Add two tables to your web page and link them to something else. |
| 8 | Introduction to Internet Web Dev package. | Create another page using this package with the things you already know how to do other ways. |
| 9 | Digital pictures - how to take them and bring them into a program | Start a digital portfolio with at least 5 pictures and save to your home directory. |
| 10 | Beginning Photoshop commands | Modify the pictures in you portfolio and resave them. |
| 11 | Putting together an exciting web page | Create a project that uses all the elements of the last 10 weeks. Write a paper to describe the skills you have learned. |

| 13 | Streaming | Make a short presentation using streaming. |
| 14 | Portfolios and how you can use them. | Prepare a portfolio of your life up to this point. Include pictures, other programs and anything you would like to add. |

| 16 | Designing templates for a department in the school. | Pick a department and gather information for a department web page. |
| 17 | Examples of good design | Continue the department web page |
| 18 | Individual help on projects | Finish the department web page |
No textbook is used for this class. Assignments are distributed to the individual students by using the network. Assignments can be retrieved from the individual students' accounts when they have finished a project.
