BHS Concerto Competition
The 7th Annual Boulder High School Concerto Competition will take place on Friday, October 16 from 8:30-10:30 am in the BHS Frank Smucker Auditorium. Contestants must play or sing a single movement of a piece with available orchestra accompaniment. All pieces must be approved by Dr. Mason before the competition. This competition is open to any Boulder High School student registered in a performing music class at school. The winner will be featured as a soloist with orchestra in the May, 2010 orchestra concert.
Boulder High Orchestras
The Boulder High School Orchestras strive to offer an environment where students can learn and appreciate music in a wide variety while improving their skills as musicians. This is achieved daily within each class as students ranging from freshman to seniors participate under the direction of Dr. Katharine Mason.
Orchestra
Orchestra is a performing ensemble, which performs for school concerts, competitions and special occasions, including Back to School night, BHS Showcase, and others. It is open to all students who play violin, viola, cello or bass.
The dress code for performances is all black dress clothes. Shoes should be black dress shoes.
Parents are always needed to chaperone for competitions and trips, to help organize the music library and to help at concerts.
Musical Pit Orchestra
A musical takes place during the spring semester. The make-up of the orchestra is different each year, determined by the needs of the musical. An audition is required for students who wish to participate in the Pit Orchestra. Rehearsals begin approximately six weeks prior to the opening of the musical. Rehearsals are held after school and can sometimes run rather late, especially the two weeks just prior to the opening of the musical. Students will need to dress appropriately for the performances.
