Football Pep Band
In 2001 the students, parents, instrumental music faculty and administration at Boulder High School decided to make a change from the more traditional marching band to one that reflects our school community. This band will focus on music performance and will no longer march for half-time shows. It will still provide music and half-time performances for football games and perform in Boulder parades.
The Football Pep Band?s season extends from mid-August to the end of October or early November. Following the main season, we perform in a couple of parades and may go on a major trip in the spring. Prior to school starting in late August we hold a band camp.
The Football Pep Band includes the instrumentalists and the Color Guard. Any Boulder High student who plays a musical instrument, whether enrolled in an instrumental music class or not, is encouraged to be in the The Football Pep Band. Color Guard membership is open to any BHS student - prior experience is not necessary.
Once school begins in the fall, members usually rehearse twice a week. Each rehearsal begins at 3:15 P.M. and usually ends by 5:00 P.M. Practices will rarely run late, but the possibility always exists. Carpools are available if your student needs help getting to and from rehearsals. Practices will take place in the band room at BHS. Additional rehearsals may be called for special occasions or if deemed necessary by the members or the director.
Band Camp is held yearly. During Band Camp students will rehearse music, work on show ideas and have a lot of fun. Scholarships and financial aid are available.
Sectional rehearsals may be held if necessary. Each instrumental section has its own section leader who is responsible for his or her section's performance and behavior.
The Football Pep Band will not wear a prescribed uniform. Each member will receive a special band shirt, but the director and The Football Pep Band will decide what the group will wear for each individual performance. The Color Guard will wear specific outfits depending upon what the Color Guard is doing. They have a warm up outfit and show outfit. Color Guard participants will be contacted in August about uniform details and needs. No student will be denied the opportunity to participate in the Football Pep Band because of difficulties with paying fees.
The BHS Football Pep Band Boulder and Color Guard perform at all home football games, rallies, Boulder parades and Music Showcase. The members of The Football Pep Band will decide upon additional performances. All home football games are played at Recht Field. Most games are on Friday nights, however there may be one or two Thursday games each year. The Football Pep Band plays in the stands for the first half of the game and at half time will put on a unique and spectacular show for the fans. During the third quarter of the game, the Football Pep Band gets a break and the Beach Band (see below) goes onto the side of the field to perform. During the fourth quarter, the whole band again convenes to play. Parents are highly encouraged to come and cheer on the team and instrumental music. Many band members get together after games to socialize and grab a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants.
Beach Band
The Beach Band is a group of selected students from the Football Pep Band. It usually performs during third quarter at home football games and for numerous occasions during the school year.
Basketball Pep Band
The Basketball Pep Band is limited to 25 students and plays for all boys and girls home varsity basketball games. Membership is open to all students at Boulder High and requires an audition and director approval.
The basketball season begins in November or early December and ends sometime in February, depending upon playoffs. There are usually 2 or 3 games per week, school nights and weekends. While there is no specific uniform, students usually wear clothing that displays school spirit.
