Centaurus High School
Centaurus High School, Front Range Community College, the University of Colorado's College of Engineering, Project Lead the Way, and the private sector support students for six years through a BS in Engineering. College level, college credit classes in chemistry, physics, college trigonometry (elementary functions) and calculus are offered at Centaurus, along with engineering classes. Students have the opportunity to explore the broad field of engineering to help make career decisions.
Students have the opportunity to enroll in a sequence of courses covering the essential topics in technology including design, digital electronics, principals of engineering; computer integrated manufacturing and a technology research project. The program allows students to apply math and science skills to real world problems. The program is presented in a project-oriented manner that encourages problem solving skills in a team-centered approach similar to what would be done in industry. Participating students receive mentors, summer instructional support, paid internships, and other assistance to assure their success.
Students in the program receive training in current technology using the latest computer software and equipment in use in industry. The program offers students a competitive advantage when applying to college and there is an option of receiving college credit. The Centaurus Engineering Academy provides pre-engineering courses for high school students through a dynamic partnership with Boulder Valley School District, Centaurus High School, Angevine Middle School, Front Range Community College, the University of Colorado and the private sector. Mission: To establish a pre-engineering education program at Centaurus High School Goals:
