Have you ever thought about why Monarch Butterflies aren't snatched up by predators? If you have, you should read this. Jane and Lincoln Brower are scientists and they wanted to figure this mystery out. So the Browers studied an experiment that was done in the late 1800's. Then they analyzed the chemicals in milkweeds and Monarch butterflies and found out they both contain poisons. Next the Browers figured out that as caterpillars they eat milkweed plants and that's why they're poisonous. Then the Browers did another experiment to see if birds can tell that the bright colors of the butterflies signal poison. The answer was yes. Birds don't eat the butterflies because when they did eat them they got sick. That wasn't good for the butterfly or the bird.
I got my information from a book called THE CASE OF THE MUMMIFIED PIGS.
