Some of the most exciting educational units start as small seeds that grow and blossom into wonderful projects! The Butterfly Garden was initially one little idea that became an extensive unit for second and third graders. This collaborative unit was planned and taught by five classroom teachers and our school librarian. The grant was funded by Micro Motion, Inc., through the Foundation for Boulder Valley Schools. The project had three main goals: study the life cycle and habitat of butterflies, practice the research process, and publish the results. Teachers learned to gather data on the Internet and to write HTML along with the students. All of our work culminated in the exquisite Butterfly Garden you are about to enjoy.
