Mountain Butterflies

By Caitlin B.

Did you know that mountain butterflies lay their eggs in rocky areas rather than on plants? The mountain butterflies only breed once a year! Mountain insects survive the cold winter on the mountains by sunbathing in the day! Mountain and Arctic butterflies retain heat through their long and hairy scales! Butterflies living in strong winds fly near the ground because they do not like being blown away! Some mountain butterflies flatten themselves when they are going to bed if it's windy.

I got my information from BUTTERFLY AND MOTH by Paul Whalley.
