Monarch Butterfly Eggs

Would you believe that a Monarch butterfly's egg is no bigger than a pinhead? Most of the time Monarchs lay their eggs on milkweed plants. When the larva (caterpillar) comes out of the egg, it will eat its egg. Their eggs have ribs on the sides. The eggs are very shiny and white. The Monarch that lays the egg will put a glue on the egg so if a gust of wind or if a bad rain storm comes, it will not fall off the milkweed plant. The egg is so small, if you passed a milkweed plant you probably wouldn't see it. The Monarch will lay its eggs in the summer so the eggs won't hatch in the snow.

I got my information from MONARCH BUTTERFLY by Julian May.
