Red Admiral Butterflies

What's orange and white and black all over? A Red Admiral Butterfly. The Red Admiral butterflies live in many parts of the world including Europe, Asia, the US, Canada, and Hawaii. They also migrate like the Monarchs! They spend summers in northern parts of the world. In the winter, they fly south. Females lay their eggs where there are a lot of stinging nettle plants. They suck nectar from the nettle flowers too. Caterpillars wrap themselves in nettle leaves and eat them. Three or four leaves wrapped together with silk protects the caterpillar while it's eating. Red Admirals go with stinging nettle plants like bacon and eggs!

I got my information from MOTHS AND BUTTERFLIES by Dave Beaty and BUTTERFLIES AND MOTHS by Barbara Taylor.
