Endangered Butterflies

By Emily M.

A stick with wings whizzes through a forest. It is a butterfly, followed by a huge line of predators! There are monkeys, birds, frogs, toads, spiders, but worst of all PEOPLE! People cut down trees so butterflies have no where to roost.

Even though butterflies are hunted, they have astonishing camouflage, such as looking like dead leaves or bark. Some caterpillars disguise themselves as bird droppings. Yuck! I wouldn't want to eat that! Well, neither would predators! That's only one way that caterpillars survive!

Birds are their chief predators. They have the most opportunities to catch butterflies or caterpillars. They can catch them on the ground or in the air. Another reason why butterflies are endangered is that they are being poisoned. The message I'm trying to get to you is (I think you figured it out but...) Don't kill the butterflies!

I got my information from ZOOBOOKS: BUTTERFLIES.
