Migration

Migration has happened from generation to generation by butterflies and moths. The colorful Monarch Butterfly migrates from Minnesota or Canada to Mexico. They travel in large groups called clusters. Did you know they travel over 2,500 miles to Mexico? An amazing sight is when they stop to roost (rest or sleep) on trees . They crunch together so that two million butterflies fit on a very small space?

Adult Monarchs lay eggs on milkweed plants on the way back to Minnesota or Canada. They stop, mate, lay eggs, then the eggs hatch and the young butterflies finish the journey. Their journey is complete in about two months or less. The butterflies go back to the same place and they start the cycle all over again.

I got my information from THE MONARCH BUTTERFLY and MONARCH BUTTERFLIES.
