Would you like to learn about a really cool butterfly? Speaking of butterflies...Hey, what is that red-orange butterfly? That is what is known as the American Copper. It is named after it's red-orange coloring. They have a 1.5 inch wing span. They are found in the northeastern United States in open grassy areas. The American Copper's favorite food is Sheep Sorrel which is also found in open grassy areas. The Bog Copper and the Small Copper both live in the same areas and are related to the American Copper. The male Copper has a darker color and bigger spots. They need alot of moisture, which they get from the open grassy areas where they live. Sadly, they are gradually dissappering because of the destruction of their habitat.

I got my information from the book MOTHS AND BUTTERFLIES.
