What is a Cecropia Moth?

Some people would be scared silly if they saw a little green caterpillar with red, yellow and blue bumps crawling up their arm. Would you? Well, I hope you wouldn't because it is a Cecropia moth caterpillar. Don't worry, they're harmless! Some people think they're poisonous because they look fierce. When a female lays her eggs it takes 10 to 12 days for the eggs to hatch. The Cecropia is the largest moth in North America and belongs to the silk moth family. They have a wingspan of 5 to 6 inches and a body length of 5 inches. We can not see them very well because they are not attracted to light. They fly at night and they do not fly near houses. This is the way Cecropias live their very short lives.

I got my information from CREEPY CRAWLY CATERPILLARS.
