Communication
Responsibility for communication
belongs to teachers, parents, and students. It can only be successful
and effective when all participate. Communication takes many forms
at Coal Creek. Each format is an integral part of staying informed.
Meet-the-Teacher Night
Coal Creek families are invited to attend the Meet-the-Teacher
event during the week prior to, or beginning of, the school year.
At this celebration, class lists are posted, students meet their
teachers in the classrooms and set up their desks with supplies
for the first day of school. Information about the current year
is distributed.
Curriculum Nights (See School Year Calendar
for specific grade level dates)
Coal Creek teachers offer a Parent Night within the first month
of the school year. This night is for adults only. It is an information
sharing night with the purpose of learning about curriculum and
classroom expectations. It is a good time to ask questions on
any topic. New information regarding curriculum (BVSD revisions
and Coal Creek implementation) is explained on these information
nights.
Friday Folder
The Friday Folder is an important link in communication between
students, parents and teachers. It includes student work for review
as well as general information, newsletters, and notices of future
events. The parent's responsibility is to review it and then initial
the sign-off sheet provided by your child's teacher. Parents are
encouraged to include any questions or comments and keep the contents.
Children return the empty folder to their teacher on Monday .
The teacher reviews the sign-off sheet and responds to comments
in writing or with a phone call.
Class Newsletters
Teachers communicate with parents about classroom programs, events
and areas of study in grade level newsletters which may be sent
home weekly, biweekly or monthly, depending on grade level needs
and preferences.
Coal Creek News
The school newsletter is sent home every other Friday and should
be in the Friday Folder, or it can be requested by e-mail only. We attempt to send only one to each family with
the oldest or only child. The newsletter contains important school
information and upcoming events.
Coal Creek Online
The Coal Creek Web Site is updated regularly. Teachers can be
contacted using E-mail. From the main menu on the home page select
Faculty and Staff. Then click on a teacher's name and a mail-to
form will appear on your screen. If you do not get a timely response,
please contact the librarian or principal. Parent
volunteers maintain pages for each grade level and specialist
area.
Community Bulletin Board
The Community Bulletin Board is located in the front foyer. It
contains notices of community programs/events/classes that may
interest Coal Creek families. If you have something to post, please
clear it with the office.
