We are small pet food company that specializes in proper nutrition for small exotic herbivores, which includes prairie dogs. We have an excellent cube made from timothy that is to be fed to pet prairie dogs. We are looking for a really cute pose of a prairie dog to put on our new label and brochures. I found your students articles with pictures while I was searching for prairie dog images. I would like to discuss with you the possibility of obtaining the rights to one of the pictures. Greetings, As a long time owl lover, I love to see young people expressing the same fasination I have with owls. I will revisit your site and hope to see more drawings and essays. Here in Colorado, we also have a lot of good habitat for burrowing owls. But people want to live in the same places the owls call home. So, I expect we will see less and less of these amazing birds. However, one little owl set up residence right next to a very busy highway and shopping center. He flew away for the Summer and we hope to see him back again this Winter. So, if they can make a living right in the middle of town, maybe there is hope for their species. Regards, Jeffrey Stucker

My daughter and I are looking for what type of caterpillers we have found in our back yard. We have a milk weed that is coming though very tall rasberry bushes. The plant was covered with this caterpiller. It is up to a 1 inch long (most are smaller). It is very hairy with black, orange, and white colors. The front and back of the caterpiller hairs are very long mostly black and little white. The back is all orange hairs(not dots, not stripes). It does not look like a Gypsy moths caterpiller I have see n in the past. Please help if you know what in the world it is. Thanks

Thanks for your site. I just got back from Colorado. A friend and I were trout fishing by the Green Mountain Reservoir. We only caught three little fish in three days, but I did get to see a black bear! That was the first wild bear I've ever seen. He w as walking down the road on the west side of the reservoir. When we were about 200 feet away, he heard our car and ran off the road. I wanted to get a better look, so we stopped and I ran through the roadside brush to see if he was still there. Much to my surprise, he was standing up on his hind legs about 15 feet in front of me. I told him to stay right where he was, and ran back to get my camera. My friend saw me running towards the car, and thought the bear was chasing me, he got scared and ran back to the car! I got my camera and ran back to where the bear was, but he didn't listen to me, he had run off. We drove on down to the dam and started fishing. About a half hour later, we saw a small animal running over the rocks on the dam. He wasn't very close to us. My friend thought it was a ferret, but it was solid black. I thought it was a mink. A little bit later I was sitting on the rocks, I looked up, and there he was, running right at me. I don't think he saw me. He ran up to about three feet away, then realized I was there and ran off. Thanks to your site, I've determined that it must have been a marten. Thanks again and keep up the good work! Steve

Our 5 painted lady butterflies just emerged from their cocoons. One took a very long time. We brought in lots of flowers for our butterfly house. Our butterflies are already flying around. They are very pretty. We wanted to release them outside tomorrow. However, it is cold and rainy in Grande Prairie. So, we decided to wait until next week. We feed them sweetened water. Their wings dried up and they are very colourful. They are brighter today than they were yesterday. It looks like someone dumped paint on their wings. We loved reading your butterfly story on your website. Thank you.

I enjoyed your page. The art work is beautiful. I am very involved promoting barn owls for rodent control. I have a web site about that and sometimes I give speeches to people who are interested. They do a wonderful job and farmers eagerly invite th em to dine on their pests... for free! I also have a small business building and sell nesting boxes for barn owls. I'm a busy guy. If you need any owl pellets to study, I'd be happy to send you some. Ask your teacher email me a note. I also have a barn owl feather that you might like to look at. The feathers are not like other birds' because they have extra fibers along the tip of each rib. These help the birds fly silently. Good luck in your studies. Thanks again for the great reports on barn owls.

One wing was damaged and it was very docile so I took her to the festival. It say on my shoulder or stayed in m y my woods fairie hair all day. It was very magical. I didn't know that they ate poison ivy. We were worried that it might be hungry but just gave it water. How long do they live as a moth? Thank you for sharing this fascinating book of butterflies with fantastic illustrations. I copied each page and will bind them together in a book to share with my "Butterfly and Bug" Campers up here in the western mountains of Maine. I can't wait to see their reactions. You have made a wonderful contributions to the world of butterflies!!!Thanks again!!P.S. my camp is for 4-8 year olds and then maybe older kids too this summer. I run it out of my backyard/workshop. Not a big operation but popular with the kids in the neighborhood and beyond. I raise preying mantis and this year will continue to work on raising more than a few caterpillars. Thanks again for all of your valuable information. Bye!!

Dear Michelle, Our class just finished a science unit on the Painted Lady Butterfly. We decided to look on the Internet to see if we could find out more information about that particular kind of butterfly. We were very excited to read you web page. It had a lot of i nformation that we could relate to. Our class was lucky enough to watch the butterflies go through the whole metamorphosis process. If you have any questions about the Painted Lady Butterfly, maybe we could answer them for you! Sincerely, Miss Flaherty's Class 2nd grade Glenallan Elementary Silver Spring, MD

Dear Dylan Thank you very much for your informative article on Bobwhite Quail. The reason I looked this up is cause we now have one living in our backyard in Ontario, Canada.Guess this is one lost quail, poor thing. I know about these little guys from pictures I have seen in hunting magazines, but have never seen one in the wild. (If you call my backyard wild!). I always thought that they lived in a more moderate climate and in coveys, like in Virginia or Tennessee. We worry about him because the last few nights have been -37 and that is really cold!! He really is an enjoyment to see & we are feeding him special. Thank you again. Sharon
