Chunnel Trains
by Karl, Grade 3

Chunnel trains were designed to cross the English Channel in the tunnel under the water. The channel tunnel is 150 feet (45 meters) below the seabed. The tunnel is 31 miles (50 kilometers) long.

Le Shuttle has four main controls. It has one for directions, one for speed, and two for brakes. Le shuttle is powered by electricity that it collects from an overhead wire. It can travel 87 miles (140 kilometers) per hour. There is room for it to carry 100 cars, 12 buses, and 1000 passengers. Click here to learn more about the journey.

The Eurostar can go 190 miles (300 kilometers) per hour. It shares tracks with Le Shuttle. Click Eurostar to learn about the history of this train.
