If you see a very large animal with thick brown fur, it may be a bear. Does it make a roaring noise? Can you see some big, sharp, shiny teeth? If so, you better run fast because it's a grizzly bear! Grizzlies and people can not be together. If you come upon a grizzly, do not wave your arms because she or he will attack you. You don't want the grizzly to attack you, so get down on the ground and play dead. The grizzly won't kill you, but he might hurt you. The grizzly bear has brown thick fur to protect him from the cold in the winter. The grizzly can grow up to 8 feet tall. The grizzly is a smart, mean animal with sharp claws and a good sense of smell. The grizzly sleeps in spots along the way, finding food for its young. The grizzly bear sleeps in the winter and wakes up in the spring. The grizzly lives in Alaska and Western Canada. There are not that many grizzly bears left in Colorado. The males have larger home ranges than the females. The adult grizzly is more dangerous than a baby grizzly. The grizzly mates in the early summer. The grizzly bear can bring down a buffalo with a swipe of his powerful paws. The grizzly could carry off a carcass of a one-thousand pound elk. The grizzly is one of the most powerful animals. Grizzlies belong to a species of bears called the big brown bear. I got my information from THE GRIZZLY by Jerolyn Ann Nentl. |
