Pronghorn by Isaac B., age 8

If you see something move and it moves very fast, it may be a pronghorn. If it looks like a antelope, it's a pronghorn. Pronghorn mothers need time alone, so they leave another pronghorn mother in charge. It has its own hiding spot called a cache. A cache is a baby's private hiding space.

Did you know that grass is half their diet? It eats a mixture of grasses. They also eat leaves, flowers, twig, bark and clovers. They look like a white, tan and brown deer. Pronghorns are hoofed and horned animals. It has branch-like horns. It sheds its horn coverings every year. It has skinny legs and a white bottom with brown spots, the rest of the body is tan. They run 95 kilometers, 60 mph, and it is the second fastest animal in the world. It is 3 1/2 feet tall and it can see 4 miles away. They weigh 84 to 110 pounds and are 4 feet long. They can watch their babies from 400 meters, 440 yards away. They live in the plains in North America, Mexico, and Canada.

A pronghorn is a very fast animal. It dashes back and forth trying to find food. The pronghorn is born in tall grass. The babies can already run on their second day. The babies love to run away from thier moms. Pronghorns live in the plains of Colorado. The pronghorn has a hairy coat. Its hair stands up in the summer and lays down in the winter. The pronghorn is gray, white and tan. It is very large and muscular. It eats grass and other vegetation. It loves to race any object but it won't cross train tracks. It can run 95 kilometres (60 miles per hour). The pronghorn has no relatives of its species. So keep your eyes open for the pronghorn.

Pronghorn by Sedge, age 8

If you see a animal on the hot plains that looks like a deer, it might be a pronghorn. Does it have straight horns? If so, it is a pronghorn. The pronghorn can weigh from 84 to 110 pounds. They are about 4 feet long and 31/2 feet tall. The pronghorn can run up to 84 miles an hour. It is the fastest mammal in North America. In the year 1918 there were only about a 1,000 pronghorn, but in1998 there are about 60,000 pronghorn. Their enemies are cougars, coyotes and a whole lot of other animals. They travel in big and little herds. Most people called the pronghorn the antelope. Antelope is its nickname. They are not related to antelope. The pronghorn is NOT related to the deer family either. They live in the northwestern Rocky Mountains and on the plains of eastern Colorado.
