Tiger Salamander
by Evan H., Age 8

In the dark af the night, in eastern Colorado, a 12 inch long, dark yellow, striped Tiger Salamander crawls to the pond to swim. It is the only salamander found in Colorado! It hunts for food, such as snails, caddis flies, mayflies, dragonflies and other insects. The Tiger Salamander is also known as Ambystoma tigrinum. They breed in warm April rains and the babies hatch in up to two weeks. They can take from two weeks to two years to grow to adult form! I got my information from COLORADO WILDLIFE by Jeff Rennicke. |
