Teaching Experience
I started teaching art in 1973, after receiving my Fine Arts degree in printmaking with a teaching certificate from New York University. Since those early days I received a national teaching enhancement award and full merit scholarship to graduate school during which time I earned a Masters of Art Education. My other academic achievements include a degree in medical and technical photography, as well as numerous special trainings in talented and gifted education, multicultural education, and working with special needs students. Seventeen years ago I received an additional teaching certificate for elementary regular education from the University of Colorado which enables me to be a regular classroom teacher at the elementary level.
After I moved to Boulder 20 years ago, I began teaching elementary art then moved into the regular classroom. I spent seven years as a first grade teacher, two in a multi-age first/second grade classroom, and five as a third grade teacher. I also had the unique opportunity to be selected as a Teacher on Special Assignment. My responsibilities include mentoring new teachers in Boulder Valley and teaching education methods courses at the University of Colorado. These experiences have proved invaluable in further honing my skills as an art teacher. Two years ago I moved from the regular classroom education back into the art classroom.
During my time in Boulder Valley Schools, I have been awarded nine classroom mini grants from the Foundation for Boulder Valley Schools (now called Impact on Education), and was named "Teacher of the Week" by the local ABC television affiliate.
Personal Note
Over the past 20 years, my artwork has been exhibited in a number of galleries throughout the United States. My current artistic passion is papermaking, printmaking, mobiles, and public art displays through the creation of participatory group murals.
My husband is a fifth grade teacher here in Boulder Valley and our son is studying filmmaking at New York University.
