2008 HEAD COACH'S MESSAGE:

Welcome to the 2008 Colorado High School Boys Soccer Season.  High school soccer holds a very important place in the youth careers of most players.  The excitement of representing their school and playing at the very highest levels of competition has great appeal.  This fall the best youth soccer players in Colorado will be playing for their school teams.  We’ll see a good number of them.

The BIG NEWS starting this season is Fairview’s move to the Front Range League.  And in our sport, this league should offer great competition, and I am hoping a little better opportunity for post-season qualification with the greater number of berths that the League is allocated.  Many of these teams have been on our non-league schedule over the past years.  Strong soccer programs.   Some added rivalries.

In this spot for the last two years, I have been talking about the young, talented, committed and athletic players in our program. They’re now juniors and seniors. We bring that experience into this season and hope it will contribute to greater successes.  They have been challenged and I believe these are guys who will rise to it.  The better news is that this year’s 10th graders and 9th graders are two classes with some “young, talented, committed” players and that bears well for the next years.

Your support for the players, coaches and program is appreciated.

Let’s have a great season.

Stan J.

PARENT INFORMATION

TWO A DAY PRACTICES

The next weeks will be physically and mentally demanding for players. Please see that they are fed, watered and resting during this time. Players should bring soccer boots, running shoes, shin guards, water bottle, sun screen to every training session. This week training will be at 6:30-8:30, 3:30-5:30 Monday-Friday and 9-12 Saturday. Players do run a bit extra if they are not ready to walk on at those times. Next week, with our regular school day schedule, practices will be from 3:20-5:30. Varsity and JV will be scheduled every Saturday during the season, Soph. team when a game is scheduled. We will train on holidays. There will never be any soccer on Sundays.

ATHLETIC TRAINER

An agreement between Boulder Valley Schools and the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine includes an on site certified athletic trainer for daily access by athletes for care of injuries and rehabilitation.  In addition, an MD will visit once a week and all participants receive a single free visit to the BCSM for diagnosis of more serious circumstances.  It is common for coaches to send players to the trainer for consultation. Contact  the Head Coach for further information.

INJURIES

EQUIPMENT

Players will need to provide shoes, shin guards, and water bottle. Players should bring running and soccer shoes to all sessions. Players will be asked to purchase their own game socks. A flyer will be handed out during the first week.

PARENT HELP NEEDED

FAIRVIEW ATHLETIC BOOSTERS

Is a parent organization that supports and promotes all athletics at Fairview. It is coordinated by FHS Athletic Director, Frank Lee. Each sport is represented by a parent liaison. Meetings are held monthly during the school year. Each year I am looking for a volunteer to serve as Boys Soccer liaison. Contact Stan Jozwiak to help in this capacity and for further information.

FAIRVIEW SOCCER FIELD

During the last few years our soccer playing facilities have improved beyond the imaginable. As you visit other H.S. facilities you will agree that ours rank among the best in the state. Our turf field  includes appropriate dimensions (width) for our game and the FHS Athletic Boosters have provided a top notch scoreboard. Currently, our grass field is in the best condition ever. BVSD has provided resources for maintenance and the district grounds crew has taken great pride in the surface the maintain.

This has not always been the case. Until 1999, that grass field was a poorly maintained, unsafe surface that was not adequate to play matches on. Supporters, parents and players of both the boys and girls soccer programs undertook a campaign to rebuild the surface and make it a quality facility. It included major ‘politiking’ of BVSD officials to win a generous money allocation, a major fundraising campaign by players and parents and a lot of sweat and blisters from the labor they contributed. After slow progress for four years, the last twelve months have seen a dramatic improvement of the quality of the surface.

Each season we hold our players to a few hours of “field work” in a effort to build a sense of appreciation and responsibility for our home fields. Players are ‘required’ to contribute to the field work session as if it were a training session.

The current upgrades that we plan, and WELCOME any help with include:
