2009 Summer Camp Report
The Knights marched home today from wrestling camp a tired but content crew after their best showing ever at the Rocky Mountain Wrestling Camp. The red team notched its first team win on Monday and followed it up with another win today to keep them out of last place and finished 29th of 30 with a record of 2 wins and 14 losses. While the feat does not in and of itself sound impressive, if you compare this team, comprised mainly of JV wrestlers AND forfeiting 2-3 weight classes, with the 2006 varsity squad that finished camp with a 2-16 record and dead last overall, it is a notable achievement.
The red team was bolstered by seniors Caleb Bowman (135) who had the best record overall of 11-5, Morgan Kopf (152/160) and Conor Brenan (119). Other wrestlers included Junior, Aaron Jesudason, Sophomores, Cody Kennedy, Nick Nasky, and Andrew Bedell. The red team’s lone incoming freshman, Caleb Shannon made daily deposits into the bank of mental toughness and he will hopefully take heart in the fact that Kevin Lohndorf (sophomore) learned firsthand the difference a year can make when last year he did not win a match but finished this camp at 12-4. Kevin Lohndorf and juniors, Oliver Jones, and Kimon Giomassis were drafted by other teams having an open spot at that weight in order to give our wrestlers the the maximum number of matches possible.
The black team set a number of Fairview wrestling school records this year when they finished higher than any previous FHS team at 5th place. The team gave up forfeits in three to four weight classes every dual and in spite of it they went into Tuesday with an 11-3 record, losing only to a tough Valley team in the opening round on Monday. The 24-point deficit was too great in the championship round today after wrestling very tough but losing both to Grapevine, TX and Prescott, AZ. Coach Lefebvre was happy to note that in head-to-head competition they would have beaten Grapevine and would have lost by only two points to Prescott. Leading the Knight’s Black team was state qualifier and team captain Quinn McGehan who became the first-ever Knight to go undefeated at camp with a perfect 16-0 record. Fairview’s other 2009 state participant; Chris Chavez was not far behind with only one loss in 16 matches. The remainder of the team had winning or near-winning records and consisted of:
103- open
112- Chris Chavez, Jr.
119- Michael Chavez, Jr.
125- Yuri brown, Sr.
130- Tyler Ollanik, Jr.
135- Quinn McGehan, Sr.
140- Travis Arnold, Sr.
145- Stuart Turner, Fr.
152- Blake Bucknam, Sr.
160- John Sims, Jr.
171- open
189- DJ Delger, So.
215- Dan Jacobson, Sr.
285- open
The coaches, Jim Lefebvre, Tim Shirley, & Sean Coughlin, would like to thank the wrestlers for their outstanding effort and character throughout the entire camp. We are also very appreciative of the parents who were able to drive or allowed us to drive their vehicle: Brenda Bowman, Sheryl Robinson, Glenn Lohndorf, The Ollaniks, Gail Bucknam, Soosie Shannan, John McGehan, & Jennifer Colvin.
Thanks for an outstanding 2009 Team Camp!

All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible.
