1st Annual Agoge Triathlon- October 31, South Boulder Rec Center
This year's first ever Agoge Triathlon was a great success. We had twenty participants and all twenty finished the race under the warm blue skies of Viele Lake. This year's winner was Morgan Kopf who lead after each of the first two phases of the race, the 300 yard swim and five mile bike and then was able to outlast the Rowinski Dynamic Duo of Connor (second) and Kyle (third) in the 2.5 mile run finale.
Congratulations to all the wrestlers who competed and a big thanks to the many parent volunteers and our team managers, Kasey Williams and Quinn Flanagan for all your help.

Summer Camp Report
After summer camp in 2006, I wrote,
“one of the reason 'bad' teams remain bad is that they do not make the physical and mental investment in themselves to improve their position. It's much easier to not attend summer camps, not get hammered and then to wish that we were better. It's not necessarily about being the "best" but rather to become the best we can be. Our time is coming”.
Two years later we came back to the same camp with one wrestler from the summer squad of 2006, Scott Lohndorf,
but this time instead of winning two and losing fifteen,
we won half our dual meets, finishing even at 8-8. Instead of eleven wrestlers, we brought eighteen. Along with team captain Lohndorf, we brought the following:
103 Conor Brennan (10) Maddy Lignell (7)
112 Chris Chavez (9)
119 Khiem Tran (11) Yuri Brown (10) Michael Chavez (9) Cody Kennedy (8)
125 Atticus van Lier (10)
130 Quinn McGehan (10)
135 Travis Arnold (10)
140 Caleb Bowman (10)
145 open
152 Kaz Smith (11)
160 Scott Lohndorf (11)
171 Kevin Lohndorf (8)
189 John Sims (10) Luke Light (9) Josiah Inks (8)
215 open (Kirby Johnston (10) did not attend camp because he broke his collar bone ten days before camp and is undergoing surgery this week.)
285 Enzo Invernizze (10)
Prior to camp, we conducted two sessions of lifting, followed by four days of wrestling mini-camps. While at camp, two wrestlers caught the flu, one received five staples in his head, and two had to leave halfway through camp, while one spent a night and the following day in the hospital after getting a concussion. Makes an 8-8 record sound even better. We came within two wins of beating the eventual second place team, beat league champs Grandview 32-30 and ended up 15th of 27 teams.
This is a different team than those we’ve fielded in the past. Those eleven wrestlers two years ago began setting the example that it is important to go to camp and now our wrestlers step up in spite of any number of reasons for why they should not do well and why they should not win. Guys get sick or banged up and they wrestle and win in spite of it. They are making the investment to improve themselves and the team is the ultimate beneficiary. Our time begins this winter.
My thanks to many of you for your help. Thanks to those who provided transportation to and from the camp: the van Liers, Lohndorfs, Lignells and Wardens. To Scott Beck for helping some of our kids with camp costs and finally to Coach Shirley for taking a week of vacation to drive and coach all week.

All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible.
