DISPENSING OF MEDICATION

No over-the-counter or prescription medication may be used by any child at school unless it is accompanied by a physician's order form and it must be administered in the health room by a qualified health room person.  This includes but is not limited to cough drops, Tylenol, over-the-counter cold or allergy medicines, etc.   It is the parents' responsibility to obtain from the doctor's office or the school's health room the "Parent's Request For Giving Medicine at School, Release Agreement and Physician's Signed Order" form, and to provide the medication in a container appropriately labeled by a pharmacy.  A new order from the physician and parent is required for each school year.  A new order also is necessary for any medication dosage change (up or down), as well as a "stop" decision.

Whenever possible, parents are encouraged to have the child's medication given at times other than school hours so that the school does not have to assume the responsibility of administering medication unless absolutely necessary.
