CONFLICT RESOLUTION

Flatirons uses the Building Bridges program, which is funded by the PTO.  These are the skills the program endeavors to teach: the ability to convey clear, non-threatening messages; to listen accurately; to identify problems, needs and issues; and to generate creative solutions.

The goals for the program are to help students learn new skills in communication and conflict resolution; to exercise responsibility for improving the school environment; to build a stronger sense of peer cooperation and community at school; to express peacefully and resolve their own conflicts without adult intervention; to feel a sense of power and accomplishment at being able to resolve peacefully their own conflicts; and to express anger in constructive ways, so there is less liklihood of tension, hostility and vandalism at school.
