Walk and Roll Week: April 21-24

Walk and Roll week! Fun activities are planned all week to encourage students to ride or walk to school. Some of these include:

  • Monday : bagels & oranges when kids arrive at school, and coffee for the parents;
  • Tuesday : walk or ride to school and receive a raffle ticket for a drawing for free books from Scholastic Book Fair AND, Walk and Roll for Peace …donate a roll of pennies. The Pennies for Peace Drive is quickly coming to an end, and we're very close to reaching our goal of 50,000 pennies, or $500.00.  Take one look last look around the house, in your cars, backpacks and pockets!  If you fill up the paper roll attached to this flyer with pennies and bring it to school on Tuesday, you'll be given an extra raffle ticket for the drawing for free books at the Book Fair.
  • Wednesday is Walk and Roll Day : parent volunteers from local neighborhoods will lead walks/rides to school. Mr. O and Heatherwood teachers and staff will meet students at locations near Heatherwood to ride/walk to school (see back for details); Kris Thompson (Heatherwood parent) will also be available Wednesday afternoon to help with any mechanical/bike emergencies, too (e.g. flat tires, etc.);
  • Thursday : smoothies from RUSH, healthy snacks, and music in the afternoon

Please review the bike safety rules with your children, and have your child bring a lock for their bikes.

PRIZES:

All students who ride or walk to and from school at least once during the week will get a prize!!

Students who ride or walk to school all week will also get to choose from a number of great prizes, and their name will be entered into a drawing for a special GRAND PRIZE - A bike donated by Niwot Cycles!!!!

The class that has the most students who ride or walk to school at least one day will also get a prize!

Students will receive a “Walk and Roll” card when they arrive at school; they need to bring this card with them every day they ride/walk to school, and have it marked by one of the parent volunteers. On Thursday, they will turn in their card for a prize. We will use the cards to determine the class prize, and to identify who rode/walked all week for additional prizes. The cards of the students who rode or walked all week will be entered into a drawing for the GRAND PRIZE.
