BEV CHAVEZ
UNGRADED PRIMARY

Ms. Chavez

Ms. Chavez has taught first and second grade throughout her teaching career. She taught bilingual first grade in Denver for two years, and then came to Boulder. After teaching first grade at Heatherwood for four years, she has taught ungraded primary ever since. She says she really enjoys the younger children. She finds it fascinating to observe them as they discover new things each day. Teaching reading is the heart of the first year of ungraded primary, and it is very gratifying to her to see the wonderful progress the students make throughout the year. She is excited for them when they truly connect to their reading and feel confident about their learning.

As multicultural education was the focus of her Master's degree, Ms. Chavez enjoys using Spanish as an enrichment in her classroom. She has high expectations for every students, and encourages them to take risks to succeed. She believes good self-esteem is instilled by their desire and enjoyment of learning.

Ms. Chavez grew up in Arvada, Colorado, and earned two degrees, B.A. at C.S.U. and M.A. at C.U. in Boulder. She has raised two children in Boulder. She enjoys hiking, tennis, travel, gardening, and reading.
