“The artist is not a special kind of person; rather each person is a special kind of artist.”
~Ananda Coomaraswamy
David Rivers grew up in Northwest Indiana not far from the forests and dunes of Lake Michigan . It was there on 3 acres with an old barn and a 100 year old farm house that his creativity was nurtured, and his love of nature and outdoor adventure was born. He graduated from Valparaiso University in 1990 with a BS in Biology with minors in Art and Psychology.
After working as an outdoor educator with organizations including Outward Bound, David moved to Boulder to explore the mountains and cliffs of Colorado and the West. He returned to school in 2000 intent upon earning a degree in Fine Arts (CU-Boulder 2001) and a teaching certificate (Metro State 2003). He completed his student teaching at Columbine Elementary in Boulder and began teaching at Heatherwood in the fall of 2003.
In addition to teaching art, David is interested in sculpture, architecture, reading, outdoor adventure and spending time with his wife Suzanne and their Greyhound, Moe.
