LISA JENKINS
UNGRADED PRIMARY
Mrs. Jenkins migrated to Colorado from Connecticut in 1974 to
attend the University of Colorado at Boulder. She graduated with a
degree in Psychology and planned to take a break before going on to a
Masters in Social Work.
During this break, she worked as a teacher's aide with
special education children. She discovered how much she enjoyed
working with children and the rest is history.
She went back to C.U. and received her teaching certificate.
She has taught kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and a
multi-age first/second grade. She says she is definitely a "primary"
person. After teaching 2 years of kindergarten elsewhere, she has been at Heatherwood
for 20 years teaching first, second or ungraded primary. She feels very priviledged to be part of the Heatherwood family for so many years.
Mrs. Jenkins completed her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction Literacy
in 1993 (again from CU), and the reading process has become her focus. She
has worked on district committees that have written and updated the reading
curriculum to match the Colorado State Standards. She also volunteers with
the local and state councils of the International Reading Association.
But she still has time for family and fun. Her life centers
around her fabulous thirteen-year-old daughter Sara and her husband David. They all love to
ski, swim, hike and play.
