Cautious, Courteous Drivers = Safe, Happy Heatherwood Children
The volunteer parent crossing guard program has made a noticeable difference in the driving habits of family members and the crosswalk etiquette of children and adults alike. The parent volutneers who help cross children at the cordners create a safe environment for all. With all of the plan's components -- the crossing guard program, the new traffic plan, and your community support -- parents will know that their children are safe when traveling near school. This plan was developed in conjunction with the Boulder County Sheriff's Department and the Boulder County Engineering Department.
There is no parking in the bus zones on the north side of Heatherwood Drive. A red curb signifies that this is a no parking area. The speed limit of 20 mph during specified times along this section must be observed. Boulder County Sheriff's traffic officers enforce all posted speed limit infractions surrounding our school. Also, there are no U-turns allowed in the area.
Front parking lot on the northwest side of the building, on Concord Drive. The flow
of traffic is one-way entering from the west entrance (the one further from the school
building) and exiting back onto Concord Drive. We encourage parents to keep the
flow of traffic moving and not to stop longer than it takes for their children
to exit the vehicle. During this time, staff members may be parking their cars or
leaving their parking spaces.
Signs indicate parking is prohibited on Concord Drive to the west of the crosswalk (toward the parking lot). It is very dangerous to have cars parked or stopped in this area
because it prohibits visibility in the crosswalk.
The front of the building, on Concord Drive, is a drop-off-only area with No Parking.
Parking is allowed on Concord Drive across the street from the school with given space for
the crosswalk. Students and parents are required to use the crosswalk for their
safety.
There is no parking on Concord Drive from Devonshire Drive to the entrance of the east
parking lot.
Watch for the crosswalk when entering this driveway. There will be a crosswalk guard monitoring this crosswalk. The drop-off zone for this area is around the circle by the fields. Please do not drop students off in the parking lot. Federal Regulations state: Parking is prohibited 15 feet from a crosswalk and 20 feet from a crosswalk with a stop sign. Parking is prohibited 5 feet from the curb of a driveway. |
