How much do we need per child per year?
PTA budgeted expenses are $39,175.00.  If we divide total expenses by kids that's about $87.50 per child, or about 50 cents per day that your child is in school.

What is the money for?
The PTA funds school programs that the district is unable or only partially able to fund.  The main areas our PTA supports include:

1.)  $11,700 - Salaries for Literacy Para-professionals.  Louisville Elementary uses a unique flooding concept to teach literacy.  Teachers and para-professionals "flood" the classroom, creating small student reading groups.  Teaching children in small groups at their current reading level is the most effective way for children to improve their reading skills.

2.)  $6,900 - Classroom and Grade Level Support.  This includes money for teachers to use in their classrooms.

3.)  $5,900 - General Education Support.  This money covers the cost of substitute teachers when the teachers have training or go to observe other classrooms to improve teaching methodologies.

4.)  $9,375 - Enrichment.  This covers many of the schools activities and events, such as a Visiting Author, assemblies, Destination Imagination, science fair, field days, recess equipment, Walking and Wheeling Days, and teacher appreciation.

5.)  $3,000 - Child Assault Prevention.  Louisville Elementary feels it is imperative that we teach students how to be safe and teach their families how to support them in that effort.  This phenomenal program does just that.

What happens if we don't raise the money?
Our kids go without.  Money raised this year pays next year's expenses.  Without the money, we will have to cut services for the 2009-2010 school year.  Some families cannot give but others who can often make up some of the shortfall.  Fundraising at a public school is a necessity.

How is the budget created?
The 2008-09 budget was prepared and approved by the PTA Board last spring.  The Board reviewed the 07-08 school year expenses, determined where money is best spent to benefit our children, and then created the budget.
