The LES PTA along with a coalition of LES parents have committed to a large-scale upgrade of the school's playgrounds. The project will upgrade all of the LES Playgrounds to provide a modern, community based children's park. Our goals include improved access for Special Needs, installation of modern play structures and equipment, replacement of the play surfaces for improved accessibility and safety, enhanced landscaping, and the installation of an outdoor pavilion to provide shade and a classroom setting. The plan calls for leveraging off the existing LES playgrounds by keeping good existing equipment, adding key new components, and replacing the playground surfaces with a combination of wood fibers and poured rubber. New playground equipment will be installed on each of the three LES Playgrounds and includes "Spacenets", "Rocks", and Playscapes. The schedule calls for planning and fund raising this summer through next spring with installation and community building in the summer of 2006.
