Summer Enrichment Programs with the Gifted Kids Network www.giftedkidsnetwork.com

Participate in summer enrichment from the comfort of your own home. Students access these enrichment programs from their home computer. Classes take place through a private student network that is secure and safe. Students should have PC compatible computers with high speed internet access.

Animal Planet
Is it fair for animals to be raised in captivity or is it better to allow them to roam free in the wild? What's your opinion? We'll examine the practices of wild life preserves, zoos, humane societies and more. We'll be creating a virtual zoo based on what we learn about humane treatment of animals. We'll be using wikis, discussion forums, Google SketchUp, VoiceThreads, and Animoto in this fun summer activity. This program is asynchronous - activities can be completed at any time during the day/evening. Students should plan to spend about 2-3 hours per week on these fun activities. This summer enrichment program is completely online and will run from June 1st - August 1st. Open to students in grades 3-8. Cost of this summer program is $25.

Cool Tools Rule
A digital camera, video camera and computer microphone are suggested for this class. Open to students in grades 5 - 8. Students should plan to spend 10 -15 hours per week on this program. Students will enjoy learning about online multimedia projects including: digital photography, video creation, web design, and more. Students will have the option of:
selecting an area of interest and creating an online multimedia project to demonstrate their passion to the world; or choosing to create a multimedia project for a nonprofit organization as a community service project.

Week 1 - Introduction, Safety and Design Principles
Students will receive instruction on web safety, copyright laws and regulations, and on principles of design (rule of thirds, consistency, balance, use of color, fonts, etc). Students will be given guidance and suggestions on selecting a good project topic.
Week 2 - Digital Photography
Students will receive an introduction to digital photography, photo editing and photo sharing. We will view and critique photographs taken by amateur and professional photographers to discover what makes a great photo. Students will use their digital camera to begin taking photos for their project. Students will provide feedback to each other and will receive feedback from the instructor and other students on their photos. Students practice editing photos in a digital photo editor of their choice. Students may use free online tools or software they own.
Week 3 - Digital Videography
Students will receive an introduction to digital videography, video editing and video sharing. We will review and critique a variety of video shorts. Students will learn about story boarding as a tool for developing great videos. Students will practice editing video clips, adding narration, and sound. Students may use free online tools or may use software they own.
Week 4 - Web Sites
We will focus on web site layout, navigation structure, adding images and other special features. By the end of this week, students will decide whether they wish to create a digital photo show, video, or web site for their culminating project.
Weeks 5 & 6 - Project Intensive
Students will work on their project and receive feedback from the instructor and classmates. Mini lessons on each of the three project types will be offered.
Two sessions will be offered June 9thh - July 21th and July 7th - August 18th. Cost $250 per session.

Center for Innovative and Talented Youth  This CITY Experience is an opportunity for students in grades 4-6 to participate in a cultural option in the metropolitan area facilitated by a high-interest adult guide. Students show up at the monthly event at the assigned time and join their guide for tours, educational experiences, a performance, or other fun activities as the guide leads them through the exhibit or experience using educational "signposts." All materials are included and fees vary by event. The CITY Experience is currently a Saturday option offered once a month with variable times and grade levels. Events include fine arts, athletics, museums, historical locations, and math/science tours. This is a student event.
The CITY Experience will be a backstage, behind-the-scenes tour at the The Denver Performing Arts Complex. This complex features ten performance spaces connected by an 80-foot-tall glass roof and hosts Colorado Ballet, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Opera Colorado, Denver Center Attractions, the Denver Center Theatre Company and the National Theatre Conservatory. Guided tours showcase rarely seen areas such as Actor's Alley, theatre design and construction in the Tramway Building where all of the props, costumes, lighting and scenery are created for the Denver Center Theatre Company, and the stunning Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Following the tour, we'll talk about how a show is built from early production to the curtain going up here at the Complex Join us for this exciting CITY Experience.
