For Students Interested in Engineering

Monarch High School offers classes to support an interest in engineering, including the required prerequisites for university engineering programs. Monarch students can also earn college credit through CU Succeed and AP classes. Our graduates gain acceptance into the nation’s top engineering schools, including MIT, Stanford, UC-Berkeley, and many others. Monarch’s overall science and math programs set high academic standards for all students.

Courses:

  • CU Succeed/AP Physics, CU Succeed/AP Chemistry
  • CU Succeed/AP Calculus AB, CU Succeed/AP Calculus BC, CU Succeed Calculus 2 and 3, AP Statistics, AP Computer Science A
  • Computer Aided Design using the engineering program of choice of many universities
  • Industrial Design with an emphasis on project management and risk management
  • Robotics where students gain practical experience in mechanical design, programming, electronics, and entrepreneurship by working with professional engineers from Ball Aerospace, Lockheed Martin, Sun Microsystems, and others to design and build a sophisticated robot to compete in regional and national competitions. Students write a business plan, raise capital from organizations, and manage a $15,000 budget.
  • To help apply their future degrees to the real-world marketplace, students can take a variety of business management courses and internships. They can also learn leadership and entrepreneurism skills through our nationally recognized FBLA and DECA clubs.

For Students Interested in Bioscience

Monarch graduates focusing on bioscience and medicine are well prepared to enter top universities. Many earn college credit while still in high school through Monarch’s CU Succeed and AP courses. Our math and science departments set high standards for all students.

Courses:

  • CU Succeed/AP Biology, CU Succeed/AP Physics, CU Succeed/AP Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology
  • Science Research Seminar where students are paired with working scientists in yearlong hands-on scientific research and scholarship 
  • CU Succeed/AP Calculus AB, CU Succeed/AP Calculus BC, CU Succeed Calculus 2 and 3, AP Statistics, Computer Science A
  • Opportunity to participate in the BVSD Science Fair where Monarch students regularly earn high honors

Students interested in biotechnology can tap Monarch’s many business courses and leadership clubs, including:

  • Leadership in Action, Communication in Society, Public Speaking, Business Law, Business Foundation, Business Management, Finance, Marketing and Business Economics, AP Statistics
  • Hands-on Marketing Internships, Marketing Lab, and Business Internships where students spend at least 15 hours a week in intensive on-the-job experiences
  • Internationally recognized DECA club (marketing)
  • Nationally competitive Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club
  • Robotics club which won the entrepreneurship award for best business plan and project management
  • Mock Trial state competitors
  • National Forensics League competitors

Monarch has applied to become a pilot school for the High School of Business which is designed for college-bound students interested in pursuing a business major. An advanced-level curriculum introduces key business concepts, encourages entrepreneurial skills, requires critical thinking, and provides experiences that facilitate the transition to top business colleges. Students build valuable skills through academic courses and Monarch’s many business clubs:
