The Kindergarten Experience
AM Session 8:40-11:35
Pm Session 12:35-3:25
On a typical day in our Monarch K-8 classroom, you will see the children busily
engaged in a variety of learning experiences. Our classroom is an exciting place!
We have a focus on literacy and learning in combination with a weekly theme.
Our weekly them is reflected in our weekly poem, books, writing, listening,
math, and art projects. Our Kindergarten curriculum meets states standards while
providing an inviting, challenging, and fun learning experience for children
of all levels. Small group instruction allows for students to work at their
own levels and get the individuals instruction that is best suited for their
learning styles. Our learning centers allow students to practice, apply, and
extend Kindergarten skills that will enable each and every student to be successful!
Our Kindergarten day starts with our "Opening Time" which consists
of The Pledge of Allegiance, sharing, calendar, shared writing, reading, phonemic
awareness, and many other kindergarten skills! We keep track of the number of
days weve been in school and even begin to learn how to count by 2s,
5s, 10s, and 20s! We have a huge celebration when we finally
make it to the 100th day of school!
The daily literacy instruction involving our weekly poem is a great way to encourage
the home school connection that is so important for success in early reading.
A new poem is sent home each Monday. These poems focus on High Frequency, Rhyming
words, word families, phonemic Awareness, and other important literacy skills.
Seeing the excitement in the eyes of each student as they practice reading the
poem to the whole class, is a priceless gift that is a delight to see each and
every day!
We have wonderful parent helpers in the classroom each and every day! We are
very fortunate to have this wonderful support system, which allows for smaller
group instruction in reading and math, special projects, and invaluable support
and help for smooth flow of running a Kindergarten classroom. Parent participation
is encouraged and always welcomed at Monarch K-8. We are very lucky to have
such active and involved families. The Monarch community is the best!
You will also find Mrs. Lander, our Literacy support Specialist, working with
small groups of children in the morning and afternoon to support our Kindergarten
literacy instruction. Being part of the Monarch community means that we are
also able to have older children help in several areas through out our Kindergarten
day. The success of each and every child is our goal, and we have a great support
system in place to see that this goal is achieved.
In the adjoining room, Mrs. Adams Kindergarten Enrichment program provides and
exciting and creative extension to our half-day Kindergarten. The KE supports
and enhances the Kindergarten childs learning experiences with hands-on
explorations, music and movement, dramatic play, science, and literacy extensions.
We are fortunate to have a quality, "enriching" program offered at
Monarch with a certified and experienced teacher directing this program.
