7th Grade Science
Seventh grade science at Monarch K-8 focuses primarily on the Life Sciences. That
means there are a lot of great activities to explore throughout the year! Just
some of the things we will do will be to study cells and use the microscopes.
During our plant unit we grow FAST plants which go from seed to seed in just 28
days. We will extract actual DNA and also run gel electrophoresis for DNA fingerprinting
during the genetics unit. Carrying out our own studies on Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches
and becoming research and design teams that make gear cars for a fictitious toy
company is also part of the fun. A these of forensics runs throughout the year
and includes labs on fingerprinting, hair analysis, forensic botany, using maggots
to determine time of death, analysis of stomach contents, analysis of blood, and
using bones to identify victims of a crime. The goal is to make science fun and
challenging.
