Sixth Grade Exploratory Wheel
The Angevine sixth grade Exploratory Wheel is composed of four segments: Art, AVID Pathways, Computers, and World Languages. Students will rotate through all four offerings over the course of the school year.
Art:
This introductory class will experiment with a variety of media to create visual art. Using the Elements of Art (line, shape, color, value and texture), the development of basic art skills and different art techniques are stressed. Projects include: “My Name” book, pencil portrait drawing, color tempera painting, pastel drawing, pottery, and cartoon design.
AVID Pathways:
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a popular college preparatory class at our school. The Pathways class is specifically designed to teach 6th grade students the essential skills for academic success in middle school and beyond. In this course students will focus on developing skills in using Cornell Notes, coursework organization, reading for meaning, and efficient studying techniques.
Exploratory Computers:
Sixth Grade Exploratory Computers is a brief introduction to Computer Science. Topics are designed to introduce applications that could be used in the educational setting. Logical programming is also introduced, as well as computer related vocabulary. At Angevine, students will be exposed to the Microsoft Office products. Multimedia production and basic keyboarding are also introduced in this course.
World Languages:
Exploratory world language immerses students in communication and culture through languages other than English. This fun and dynamic class allows students to experiment with different styles, modes, and types of communication while exploring the world language offerings available in 7th and 8th grade.
