Boys Basketball Culminating Event Tuesday, September 13th at Angevine

Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s),

I am very excited to be coaching your child for the 6th/7th Grade Boys Intramural Basketball Season. I wanted to inform you of a few things before we get started. The philosophy of Boulder Valley Middle School Intramurals is one of participation rather than competition. This means that all players will get to play in both practice and games, there will be no cuts, and teams will be divided evenly rather than by skill level. Practices may be differentiated a little more based on skill and experience, but teams for games will be as equal as possible. The goals are to learn about the game of basketball and to build teamwork skills. The 8th grade leagues and high school leagues will be more competitive than this one. I anticipate that your child will become a better ball player in the three short weeks that we have and that he will have a really good time doing it!

The logistics are as follows. We will practice everyday after school in the gym. Your child will be ready to be picked up by 5:00PM in the lobby or outside. With a family of my own, I ask that you are prompt in getting your child after practice. The season begins today, August 22rd, and ends on Monday, September 13th. We will have a "culminating event" on the last day (13th) where players from Angevine will get an opportunity to play students from other middle schools in the district. Exact times and location of this final event are yet to be determined. I will inform you of the details when I receive that information.

I recommend that your child have a snack near the end of the school day, so that he has energy during practice. Water fountains are available, but a water bottle may be preferred by your child. Basketball shoes are helpful, but any pair of decent sneakers will work. Shorts and T-shirts are necessary and can be provided if needed.

I expect that all of my players will be in good academic and behavioral standing in school. Student-athletes should be academic leaders and good citizens of Angevine Middle School. I look forward to a great season and I thank you for your support of our school.

Sincerely,

Jon Hostetter
