All students should be utilizing a spiral notebook just for math.  Please encourage your student to share it with you.  The notebook should contain:
  • grading policy
  • table of contents
  • class work
  • worksheets
  • homework
  • quizzes

We encourage everyone to talk about the math.  It reinforces the learning and brings to the surface questions and misconceptions.  Everyone should have seen our "How to Talk Math with Your Student"--it is a pink sheet and designed to facilitate conversations about what is going on in the math classroom.  If you have not seen it, please ask your student.

Please click on the link to the left to have access to class documents and worksheets.

  • to give yourself an effort grade each week.
  • to go over the checklist and see if you can check anymore items off.
  • to talk about the math at home too.
  • to update your table of contents daily
  • to make good choices:)

Math Homework Survey.  Sorry parents and guardians, this will be your homework:)

Math on Call is a great resource and is available in Spanish also.  We have a few you may check out, or it can be purchased at most major bookstores as well as on Amazon.  This resource can be used all through high school.  Please feel free to borrow a copy.

Comparing and Scaling

  • rates
  • unit rates
  • proportions

Hello parents and guardians.  Two trimesters have been completed and we are running a bit short on supplies.  We are in need of spiral notebooks and pencils.  Please encourage your student to always come to math class with a pencil, his/her spiral notebook and math book.  We randomly have some extra pencils in case it is forgotten, broken, etc., however we do not have enough to supply the students with a new one every day.  If this is an issue, please encourage your student to stop by the counseling office for some.  Many students have already filled in two entire spiral notebooks with a lot of great math and will most likely need at least one more to last the year.  If you happen to have any extra spiral notebooks, wide-ruled, we would greatly appreciate them.  As always, thank you for your support.

Along with supporting the current content in your student's regular math class, we continue to build strong number sense.  Currently we have been working with fractions and percents.  Soon we will also include a review of decimals.  It is important that students have a strong rational number foundation and any extra support at home would definitely benefit the students.  Some ideas:
  • cook together and work on fractions
  • ask your student to calculate taxes and gratuities
  • work with money and make change
  • as always, TALK ABOUT IT

Thank you thank you thank you:)

Education
I attended Galveston Community College and University of Texas in San Antonio. I received my BS in mathematics with a minor in secondary education from Metropolitan State College in Denver.  Currently I am pursuing my Masters degree in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity at the University of Colorado, Boulder--thanks Bueno Center!

Philosophical Statement
In my opinion, to say one "cannot do math" is equivalent to saying one "cannot read." Both are necessary to be successful in whatever one chooses to do in life.

Role at Angevine
For the 2011-2012 school year I am teaching math with:
  •  4 sections of M15--7th grade math
  •  2 sections of a 7th grade Academic Support Class
  •  1 section of E5
