What's New:
CAR FREE FRIDAY
This Friday, Feb 10 is another Casey Car Free Friday. Walk, bike, board, etc. to school. Participants will enjoy bagels, cream cheese, and a drawing for a Moe’s Bagels Gift Card.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
Conferences are February 15, 23, and 28 in an “open house” format from 4 - 6 p.m. If you desire a more in-depth/private discussion than the open house format allows, please sign up for 5-minute conferences with specific teachers from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Sign up here.
YEARBOOK!
8th graders - submit you artwork for the yearbook cover! All students - submit poetry for publication. For more information, just click here.
NO U-TURNS ON HIGH STREET
Many cars are making U-turns on High Street into parking spaces in front of the school, especially during drop-off and pick-up. This is VERY dangerous, as students could be hit and injured. It's also illegal, and police will issue tickets. It takes a bit longer to go around the block, but PLEASE do not make U-turns on High Street.
CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS B-BALL TEAM
The 6th and 7th grade girls basketball team, pictured here with coach Ken Silva, finished off a great season at Casey last Friday. Wrestling and 8th Grade Girls Volleyball are now underway. For more information on Casey athletics, go here.
BOOKS
Please look around your home and car, and return any classroom or library books. Thanks!
NEW AFTER SCHOOL SCIENCE PROGRAM
Casey Community Learning Center welcomes JILA science to our after school suite of classes and programs. This CU-Boulder partner will bring graduate students in physics to work on amazing and fun projects relating to optics, lasers, rainbows, and light. Program begins Feb 13, every Monday after school. Sign up here.
BOOK GROUP FACILITATORS NEEDED
We need book group volunteers for 7th Grade language arts beginning THIS Friday. As facilitator, you will read the chosen book and help students stay on track during discussions. No other preparation is required. Flexibility in book choice preferred, but if you feel strongly about a certain book (either for or against) please note that on the sign up sheet. Please include your email address so that the 7th grade language arts teacher (Sarah Friend) can contact you. The commitment is about an hour per week on Fridays, for 3-4 consecutive weeks: February 3, 10, 17 and March 2 | See the time slots and sign up by clicking here.
E-MAIL ISSUES
The e-mail issues continue – and BVSD had a new spam attack, so we were blocked again for awhile. BVSD’s IT Department is _still_ working with us daily to try and figure out why we are having difficulty receiving and sending e-mail.
Clarification regarding ‘School Messenger’ and Infinite Campus (IC):
When an individual staff person sends an email – the system pulls directly from IC. When ‘Casey’ sends an email, it pulls email addresses from ‘School Messenger’. School Messenger is very flexible – you can enter additional email addresses for your household (tutor, nanny, etc) where IC only allows one email address per person. Also – School Messenger can do texts !!
So – to check your ‘set up’ in School Messenger – go to www.bvsd.org , click on the green “Parents” box (upper right area of home page). The ‘Contact Manager’ area is at the top of that page. If you have already set it up, just click on the Contact Manager “picture” to sign in. If you have not accessed Contact Manager before, click on “How to set up….” – and customize away !
Bottom line: We want to be responsive to you. If you send an e-mail and haven’t heard from us in a day or two, please call. Thank you for your patience.
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION
Clip off those little rectangles and bring them in – we have a collection box in the office. Casey receives 10 cents for each one we collect, and it really adds up!
6TH GRADE PARENTS
Please reserve March 20, 5:30-7:00 p.m. for a potluck dinner and presentation of student learning. Your child will have worked hard on creating a state-of-the-art website, presenting what they've learned about the history of the Americas. We will also share foods from the Americas that we encourage you to bring. Lastly, we will enjoy a wonderful dance presentation by the Mitotitzli Aztec Dance Troupe to get every one in the spirit. It has proven to be a fun and educational event in years past. Hope you can make it! Please contact Mr. Lurie lester.lurie@bvsd.org or Mr. Horowitz mark.horowitz@bvsd.org if you would like to volunteer in helping organize this. Thanks!
