| | | | | 9/8/2010 4:23 PM | | Dear Community Members,
Every year the school staff looks at our data from the previous year to assess our progress toward our school goals and to develop goals for the current year. This is part of our TIES (Tools of Inquiry for Equitable Schools) and our SIT (School Improvement Team) process and is required by state law. As part of this process the DAC (District Accountability Committee) reviews our information in accordance with the school accreditation process. I would like to share our three goals in the areas of achievement, equity and school climate with you as well as our action plans to achieve these goals. Please take a look at our goals and action plans below and tell me what you think. There is some jargon specific to the assessment process so, if any of that is unclear, let me know.
Basically, our interest is in having students learn as much as they can as efficiently as they can and in fashion that they can readily apply their knowledge to new situations. Last year we were quite successful at this and most of our students did very well. We have been recognized by the district and by the media for our efforts. We still have work to do in closing the achievement gap for some students. We also have to continuously meet the needs of all students to have a challenging, engaging learning environment.
Our goals address reading, writing, and school climate. We are keenly aware that mathematics, social studies, science, other literacy skills and all the specialist areas are part of the school picture. Success in these areas ultimately reinforces and supports our school goal process. While we do not have written goals for these content areas, we incorporate them all into our instructional mosaic with great care.
I have added our goals and action plans below rather than have them be an attachment as some have said the attachments are hard to open. Please take a look at these. If you have a comment, let me know. If you want me to share the comment with the PTA executive board, I’d need the comments before the evening of 14th.
Thank you for your support of our school!

| | | | | 9/7/2010 12:26 PM | 9/30/2010 | Thanks to the efforts of the students for the Fun Run and your support of the Million-Five fund drive at the end of last year, we are able save and fund over 20 extra duty activities for students at our school. These include intramurals, Yo-Yo Club, Jump Rope Club, Choir, Student Council, Basketball Club, flag football, Art Clubs, 2nd grade homework club, chess and Math Olympiad. Details on each of these will come from the sponsoring teachers as the year progresses. We are also able to pay for our school website upkeep. Without your generosity and the student’s hard work, we could not have done this!! THANK YOU!
You may have noticed that the Peace Pole garden at the front of the school has been completely redone and looks very nice. A former Eisenhower student, Jake Radelet, transformed this space for his Eagle Scout project. Jake got the materials and man-woman power to make it all happen! Our daily hope for peace, of all kinds, is supported by a beautiful setting thanks to Jake!
We have so many things to be grateful for in our Caring Community!!

| | | | | 8/25/2010 6:04 PM | 10/1/2010 | The September issue of 5280 (Denver’s magazine) is dedicated to education. In the issue they list the top 40 public and private schools in the metro area. Out of the several hundred elementary schools in the metro area, Eisenhower was listed with only 24 other public schools as being one of the best in the area. The selection was based on academic proficiency and student growth. This is great news! Our kids DO learn a lot!!
Thank you for your part in helping our students be successful and wise!!

| | | | | 4/7/2010 11:30 AM | 4/30/2010 | Our parking lot is a continued source of concern at school. The lot is not intended for student drop off as the signs clearly state upon entering the lot. However, many of you do drop your children off by using the school lot. We do not have the personnel to watch over the lot so, therefore, I am sending another reminder about using extreme care in the lot. Please use the church lot for drop off and pickup if at all possible. Please use extreme care there as well. If you are in the school lot, please do not park in the handicap spaces, even for the briefest period of time. The two spaces with signs at the west end of the lot are spaces people have won in our silent auction and are reserved only for those auction winners. Please don’t stop in the lanes of traffic in the lot so cars have to drive around you.
We are trying to keep everyone safe and you help in the parking lot would be appreciated.
Thank you, C. Serns

| | | | | 3/9/2010 8:40 PM | 3/12/2010 | If your kids come home and say, “Eisenhower stinks!” they are right about today. The roofing tar smell was very strong today due to unfavorable winds blowing toward the building. I am sorry this has happened and hope it will be over soon. I spoke to the construction foreman and he said that tomorrow will be the last day for all of this. However, if it rains or snows, it will be delayed until later in the week. It will be over soon!
Thank you all for your patience in this…I know it is wearing pretty thin in some cases.

CBS4, KCNC-TV—Denver, America on the Move, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Colorado and HealthONE's Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children just announced the December winner of the Fit 4 Colorado School Challenge which recognizes schools that are working to create a healthy atmosphere. Eisenhower Elementary School at 1220 Eisenhower Drive in Boulder is the Fit 4 Colorado School Challenge winner and will receive an award of $1,000 on Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 at 9:45 a.m. in the school gymnasium. Principal Charles Serns, physical education teacher Terry Neitenbach and 450 students will be on hand to accept the award. The Fit 4 Colorado School Challenge recognizes schools that are working to create a healthy atmosphere within their schools by coming up with creative and innovative ways to keep students and faculty healthy. Eisenhower Elementary School was selected as the winner because the school has created a schedule that ensures kids do not miss physical education due to school holidays. Throughout the school year the students are taught the positive benefits of physical activity through life long sports such as soccer, tennis, basketball, jump roping and golf. The school has made healthy changes to its lunch menu and now offers a daily fruit and salad bar along with hot lunch. Students can also have as much fresh milk as they want and all school parties include healthy options. Eisenhower students have an opportunity to participate in a variety of healthy activities such as the Jump Rope Club where more than 100 students gather before school each Wednesday morning to jump. The Fit 4 Colorado School Challenge is an ongoing program. Nomination forms are available at http://cbs4denver.com/fit4colorado . One school is selected each month to receive this recognition award that includes a $1,000 donation towards the program being recognized. Fit 4 Colorado is a statewide initiative that promotes the health and well-being of children and adults. CBS4 airs regular Fit 4 Colorado segments providing viewers with educational information and resources to help change behavior, increase activity and eat healthier. The program is designed to educate and inform the public about the benefits of increased activity and healthier eating, provide tips on how to maintain a healthy weight and be more active and provide resources such as healthy eating tips and easy to use tracking mechanisms to log activity and help reach goals. Fit 4 Colorado is a partnership between CBS4, America on the Move, the Anthem Foundation and HealthONE. |
| | | | | 12/7/2009 11:33 AM | 12/31/2009 | Looking for an idea to give your teacher this holiday season? The Giving Tree is now up in the main hallway. It is located on the wall directly across from the main office.
The tree is filled with apples and stars. Each grade has a color apple that matches their t-shirt color. There are stars for Library, P.E., Art, ESL, TAG and Mrs. Moore’s room. If you feel so inclined, you can take the star or apple off the tree to get that item for the teacher. You may present the item to the teacher or staff at any time. You may purchase these items with groups of people if you like. |

The old number does not roll over to the new number even though it is supposed to. |
